Where was I? Oh yes! the next movie. Slaves is based on an interview made in 2003 and is the second film in a series of animated documentaries with and about children in difficult situations by David Aronowitsch and Hanna Heilborn, and with design by Mats Johansson/Acne Jr.? Here is an excerpt…

And now we have “Dorme” a movie produced by a Petaluma local , Sylvia Binsfeld. Maybe I should call it California dreaming…hehehe…
Indeed , this film is about dreams and the places they take you… Petaluma being such a family oriented kind of town had for sure some influence on the director. Personally my dreams are more of an adult nature…

One thing that bothered me the most was the obvious placement of commercial brands within the scenes, a bit too obvious for my taste. I realize that making films is expensive and sponsors are sure a welcome source of fund… a thank you note to our sponsors during the credits should be enough.

Next is the “Armoire” a Canadian production by director “Jamie Travis”. Eleven year-old Aaron plays a game of hide and seek in which his friend Tony is never found. The mystery of their relationship and of their attachment to the armoire in Aarons bedroom can only be revealed, it turns out, through hypnosis.

My grand mother armoire had a lot more style then this one, hey! c’est la vie…

Back to another French production, “Yulia” an animation short film by Antoine Arditi.
Yulia suddenly vanishes out of her kitchen.She finds herself in a closed room with five levers fixed to the wall. By setting them in motion, she starts off a series of absurd events that will lead her to finding a soul mate.

And finally from the USA “Love Tap” by Mike Goode .

I don’t go to the movies very often, but this saturday my wife “Rose” got me going to an evening event at the Mystic Theater, The Petaluma Film Festival.
A showcase of short films from the US , Canada, France, Sweden, other countries were also represented, but I didn’t see theses movies.
To begin, I don’t think the Mystic is such a great place to watch movies, it’s cold in there, by the end I was freezing…
Ok I’ll stop complaining, (it’s a habit of mine…) let’s get on with the show.

The first presentation was a short by Peter Besson “True Beauty this Night”. A very nice romantic comedy with a twist… Great characters, great story development and surprisingly funny… check it out…

The second one from France , by directors Luis Briceno and David Alapont “Fard” It explores the future of fabricated lives and those entwined in that fantasy and the few rebelling against it. Fard is a great story even if you don’t understand French.

On to the third one:“Jitensha” (or “Bicycle”) is a story about Mamoru Amagaya, a young man struggling to find meaning in life. A co-worker confronts Mamoru on his apparent apathy toward life, and this results in Mamoru leaving his job out of humiliation. more here

I enjoyed this film, made in Japan by American film students and Japanese actors, great collaboration…

The fourth one is another French production by Stephan LeLay “La Carte”. A young man who is living in a postcard in color tries to meet a young woman who is living in a postcard in black and white.

Saturday morning, having breakfast, coffee, challah bread and Nutella… looking out the window, something moving caught my attention, Turkeys! a bunch of them, 9 to be exact, moving towards the back of my house.
What a surprise, I’ve seen them in “Putnam park” while hiking or running, but here in the middle of the town, right by “Whole Food ” Market, that’s a first. Anyway, Rosemarie took some shots of them, for the record…
